Davao’s new sports council officers elected

DAVAO CITY, April 7 — Davao City Sports Council, Inc. (DCSCI) has elected its new set of officers over the weekend to serve another term of two years.

City Councilor Peter Laviña was reelected as president of the sports body that serves as umbrella of some 20 associations. He assumed the post by virtue of succession after the demise of Vic Sai last year.

Laviña, who was elected unopposed, is also the regional director of the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP).

Ben Sur, Philippine Bodybuilding Federation (PBF) regional vice-president for Mindanao, and Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) regional director Joaquin Sarabia were also elected unopposed for the first and second vice-president positions, respectively.

Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) regional director Belen Kempis Taala was also unopposed for the secretary general position, while Davao Volleyball Association (DAVA) president Mario Mojica also was voted on the same note as auditor, chess’ Ronnie Tabudlong as business manager and Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association’s Virgilio Magdale as public information officer.

PhilCycling regional vice-president for Mindanao Salvador Paholio Jr. garnered 10 votes against Davao City Bowlers Association (DACIBA) president Ninfa Daclan’s eight votes for the deputy secretary post.

Meanwhile, Philippine Amateur Association of the Philippines (PASA) regional director Deedee Gonzalez, was elected treasurer after besting Mojia, 12-6, during the tie-breaker. Both sports officials got six votes while Tabudlong earned four votes earlier. (PNA) LDV/MPB/lvp
