Cycling: RP team to compete in Malaysia and Indonesia April 7, 2009 2:02 pm

By Lily O Ramos MANILA, April 7 –The Jazzy Sports Beacon Philippine Team will represent the country in two big international cycling races–the Delaja Tour of Malaysia on April 19 to April 26 and the Tour of West Sumatra in Indonesia on April 27 to May 3. The team, composed of Sherwin Carera, Irish Valenzuela, Renato Sembrano, Ericcson Obosa, Emilito Atilano and Rainier Clauna, will face tough cyclists from other countries in this 2.2 United Cyclists International (UCI)-sanctioned races.

Twenty teams, including continental teams from the United States, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, entered in both races. Team director Rick Rodriguez said that the Jazzy Beacon Philippine Team is looking forward to at least a top-five finish in the team classification and a Top 10 placing in the individual standings. In the 2008 races, the team finished fifth in the Tour of East Java, third in the Tour of Indonesia and 11th in the Tour of South China Sea.
