PhilCycling president seeks recognition, peace with POC

INTEGRATED Cycling Federation of the Philippines president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino seeks recognition and peace with the Philippine Olympic Committee particularly to its president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. to finally end their ongoing conflict for the sake of the sport.

In the spirit of Christmas, Tolentino said through a letter sent to the POC that he is asking for unity that would finally end their differences throughout this year that also crippled the country’s campaign in the recent Laos Southeast Asian Games.

Tolentino has also requested again to the POC to recognize his leadership as PhilCycling president as well as his fellow elected officials who inherited all their positions during the end of the term of former cycling president Bert Lina.

Tolentino is recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale, Asian Cycling Confederation and the Philippine Sports Commission as the legitimate cycling president.

“The past events have forced us to a retreat and evaluate if we are really doing a good service to the cycling sports. Unless we put an end to our differences, our athletes will be at the losing end.”

“Unaware that these could be as ugly as where we are now, especially in the eyes of the international community,” he said after the 12-man cycling team recognized by the POC was denied to race in Laos.

The letter also stated: “I am only rendering my service for the good of the group and not for my own benefit, and you are well aware that we gain nothing except to satisfy our desire to help the sport.”
