LLOYD Lucien Reynante ruled the 40-kilometer individual time trial race in Balayan, Batangas, yesterday in the final day of the unified cycling trials, leading a five-man assault on a national record that had stood for 15 years.

Reynante, son of former Tour champion Manuel, negotiated the race that started in Balayan and passed through a very challenging and tricky route in Lian and Calatagan in 58 minutes and 22.55 seconds, surpassing the one-hour mark set by Domingo Villanueva in Australia.

Is it really the record for a Filipino cyclist on a 40km ITT? I really believe that it is way too slow for an elite cyclist much more that it is a Philippine record. 15 yrs ago or exactly 1995. Pls correct me but base on the clippings i have in 1997 in SEAGames held in Indonesia. The Philippines won the 40KM ITT gold after then gold medal winner TONTON SUSANTO of Indonesia was found out to have taken illegal enhancement drugs. Event was 40km ITT and the time of the winner Victor Espiritu is 44 min 45 sec. ( reference is POC Olympics, Asian Games and SEA Games records / http://www.olympic.ph ) thank you and more power to Philcycling
