AS expected, PhilCycling president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino’s pleas on behalf of the cyclists fell on deaf ears, with Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richie Garcia saying the agency will not reinstate the allowance of the athletes until the leadership dispute in the association is resolved.

In an interview yesterday, Garcia said the PSC decision, which took effect last Jan. 31, is intended to protect the taxpayers’ money.

“Our role in the PSC is to protect the money of the people. Our fund is coming from the taxpayers and we want to put it to good use,” said Garcia, adding the PSC is out to prevent a repeat of what happened in the 2009 Laos Southeast Asian Games.
