Asian Cycling ConfederationPangasinan’s pride Baler Ravina showed that he remains the king of the mountains after ruling the recently concluded Roadbike Philippines 15th Panagbenga Festival Race in Baguio City.
The 31-year old Ravina, who hails from Asingan town in Pangasinan province, bested some of the country’s well known climbers to top the elite category of the annual race, which was organized by Roadbike Philippines president and PhilCycling Roadbike commision chairman Pablito “Bong” Sual, held during the celebration of Baguio City’s Panagbenga Flower Festival.
Ravina, the 2009 Tour of Luzon and Padyak Pinoy King of the Mountain, was with a group that included Guiba’s Oscar Rindole in the final 16 kilometers but slowly broke away and zoomed to the finish line alone.
Ravina beat some of the country’s well known climbers: 2009 Padyak Pinoy Champion Joel Calderon, 2006 tour top rookie Irish Valenzuela and 2009 Tour of Luzon champion John Mark Guevarra.
Calderon finished second while Valenzuela and Guevarra checked in at third and sixth behind Rindole and Sherwin Carrera.
Ravina went home with the P3,000 top prize and a new jersey while Calderon and Valenzuela received P2,500 and P1,000 each. All finishers recieved P300 each as consolation prize. – GMANews.TV
