THE Mayor Inday Sara Lumba Bisiklita sa Kadayawan and Sonshine Radio Cycling for Peace fires off on August 13 and 14, respectively, in Davao City.

Philcycling vice-president for Mindanao Salvador Paholio Jr. said this is a back-to-back event for riders.

April 30, 2011, President Bambol Tolentino meets VP Jun Paholio while attending the Annual Convention of Masons in Davao. On the side trip, Dep. Sec. Gen. Atty. Sumagui visited Davao and had a chance to ride with Vice Pres. Jun Paholio together with Col. Tibayan on a trip to Samal Highland on the occation of hosting by the “On Any Sunday Riders” a lunch for the concluded National Bike Convention in Davao City.

Aussie triathlete to join in
Duterte Cycling Challenge
• Newly-completed farm to market roads part of the route
AUSTRALIAN triathlon champion Rojan Force will be joining the 9th Mayor Rody Duterte Cycling Challenge set this Saturday, March 20 starting in front of the Jaltan Food Centrum in Magallanes, this city.
The 40-year old Force, who ruled this year’s Araw ng Dabaw Triathlon last Sunday, was invited Tuesday by organizer Salvador “Jun” Paholio Jr. , vice-president for Mindanao of Philcycling.
Force and Paholio were both guests of the weekly SCOOP Sports Round Table Talk at the Tagboan Lounge of the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
“It will be great honor for us to have him as our guest rider,” said Paholio, also president of the Samahang Siklista ng Dabaw.
Paholio said the 100-kilometer massed start will start at 8 a.m. with a 10-kilometer UCI rolling start. After the Individual Classfication, the riders will then be flag off in at Barangay Pampanga passing Sasa,Panacan,Ilang andTibungco.
“Upon reaching Bunawan, they will start a moderate climb at the Bunawan-Mahayag section as the concreting of this road was done already last Nov, 25, 2005 ,while the Mahayag-Acasia road was implemented and finished last Feb.26, 2006,” Paholio said.
Furthermore, the riders will also be negotiating the Indangan-Cabantian section that was implemented and turned over to the city government last January 20, 2006.
The riders will traverse on the Philippine-Japan Friendship roads as they will show their navigational skills on a steep climbing on the newly constructed 20-kilometer stretch of the Magtu-od-Calinan Alternate farm to market roads.”
The race will end up at the Shrine Hills and will be followed by the awarding of cash prizes.
“These new roads were implemented by the City Engineers office and
funded by the cityin the amount of P108.6 million under supplemental budget no.1 calendar year 2009. And it is now 100 % passable to any type of vehicle,” said Paholio, who has recommended it to the competitive riders and weekend warrior riders.
“The terrain of this alternate farm to market roads are more safe for the cyclists to have their biking activity in the absence of the bike lane,” he said.
“You can also smell the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful and scenic view of the Davao Gulf.
The Philcycling technical race officials are former SEA Games gold medalist Dominic Carpio and Randy Oca, ex-RP team members Eddie Oca and Engr. Carlofer Salonga.
Mayor Rody Duterte was invited to award the prizes together with his son Paolo, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and 76-A Karancho chairman Robert Olan-Olan and Nilo “Small” Abellera Jr.
T-shirts from Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte will also be given away. (Lito delos Reyes)

Inday Sara shows might, rules 1st Race for Peace

Team Inday Sara ruled the Race for Peace First Mindanao Tour which
comes to an Sunday at the Rizal Park after four-days of grueling race
of the islands best of the best riders.

The Davaoeno riders showed tough riding skills in all stages to make
the team of Vice Mayor Sara Duterte the inaugural champion of the race
which traversed key cities in South Central Mindanao.

Led by fourth and final stage winner Kennedy Guino-o, Team Inday Sara
completed the 682-kilometer race in fifty one hours, 19 minutes and
46.439 seconds.

UM-3MJ came through with second place clocking in 51 hours, 24 minutes
and 6.599 seconds while Cagayan de Oro Team A placed third with
51;52;32.423 seconds.

Team Inday Sara, which has won several titles in the local races, also
drew superb showing from skipper Dexter Nonato, comebacking Ruel
Casaljay, Glen Yap, Melchor Labaya and Danilo Tapao.

It was a tough race in the longest fourth and final stage (Cotabato
City – Davao City) as Guino-o took a formidable challenge from Jacky
Lloyd Berjame of UM-3MJ and Algen Sanchez of Cagayan de Oro Team B.

Guino-o crossed the finished line in five hours, 44 minutes and 46.869
seconds, just ten seconds ahead of Berjame who managed to keep pace
with the eventual winner all race long. Sanchez registered 5 hours, 45
minutes and 06.869 seconds.

With 17 hours, 3 minutes and 15.90 seconds showing, Berjame emerged
champion in the individual classification and followed by Guino-o with
17, 3.16 and 16.053 seconds and Sanchez 17, 7, 21.967 seconds for
second third place respectively.

The Race for Peace-First Tour of Mindanao is the major island’s
version of the highly-successful Liquigaz Tour of Luzon (Northern
Philippines) and the Padyak Pinoy 2009-Tour of Champions, both of
which were sanctioned by PhilCycling.

But its primary objective is far different from the two tour races as
it helps to promote peace peace in Mindanao.
