Davao Summerfest Cycling Open set May 5

DAVAO CITY (April 23) PNA – The Davao Summerfest Cycling Open Championships is set on May 5, Sunday at 7:30 a.m. in an out-and-back course at the Nanay Bebeng’s in Shrine Hills, Matina, this city.
“This is our first official event in partnership with the Duaw Davao for this summer,” said organizer Salvador “Jun” Paholio Jr., secretary general of Philcycling Mindanao.
It is sponsored by the City Mayor’s Office through the City Sports Development Division.
“We would also like to thank Duaw Davao for recognizing us as the legitimate cycling association here in Davao and Mindanao,” said Paholio.
The one-day race will have both the cross country mountain bike and road bike competition for team and individual races. The categories in the Road Bike are the Open Elite and Executive (PRC or Civil Service or updated business permit); while in the MTB are Open Elite, Cadet (15 yrs. Old under), Midget (21 yrs. Old under), Golden Boys (50 yrs. And above) and Ladies Open (road bike or MTB).
“All riders, regardless of age who had joined already in the open elite category in the past Philcycling sanctioned races or national, regional or local competitions can only join in the Open Elite,” Paholio said.
All cadet and midget riders must bring and show their original NSO birth certificates while the Golden Boys should bring their valid ID. Each team members must be a resident only of the city or province wherein the team is based with at least a one year residency.
Each team can field in a maximum of three entries per category. The team with the highest total number of accumulated points from all the categories (both road bike and MTB) will win.
A total cash prize of P160,500 plus medals and trophies are up for grabs. The team champion will earn P30,000, second P20,000, third P15,000, fourth P10,000 and fifth P5,000.
All individual champions will pocket P5,000, while second P3,000, third P2,000, fourth P1,000 and fifth P500.
Registration fee is P300 until April 30 with free packed lunch and race kit. The on-site registration fee is P350. Registration center is at Philcycling Mindanao office at Jaltan Bldg., alley, Magallanes St. For inquiry call tel. no. 321-0231 or 09125330030 or email: junpaholio@rocketmail.com.
